[attr="class","stone i"]the toughest looking foe definitely looks to be the swampert that looks surprisingly different from an average one. he looks smaller, thinner, almost as if that somehow makes him faster. his speed is shown when a PROTECT forms before the SWAGGER can take its effects.

when the CHARGED up THUNDERBOLT comes soaring their way, swampert is about ready to leap out of the way with pyu-pyu suctioned to his back before alexander's voice stops him:

"take the hit."

as confused as swampert is, his loyalty stops him from moving. the electric-attack hits him, and though he remains unaffected, pyu-pyu is unable to withstand the pain. the pyukumuku falls, activating the effects of her INNARDS OUT.

the vikavolt will find its health instantly drained away, a price to pay for what it did to pyu-pyu. and if it still isn't enough to knock it out, ROCK SLIDE should seal its fate.

There was no way for Disco to dodge the Innards Out, and he was smacked into a daze. Oscar saw the Swampert use Rock Throw and tried to avert the possible disaster, "Disco get out of the way!" Disco did not get out of the way. 

The rock smashed Disco between the pincers, sending him hurdling to the ground. The electric bug twitched, but could not get up. Oscar returned him to his pokeball. One on one it is. Oscar called to Malum, "It's all you Malum, show them your Power!" 

Malum cackled haughtily, raising a tentacle to his mouth to blow the swampert a kiss. He Swaggered forward, his eyes fixated on his opponent. After a few steps the swagger turned into a lunge, as Malum launched himself at his opponent. The dark squid began to glow with power, and hope to slam into the swampert with maximum force (Superpower).

Regardless if the attack hit or not, Malum's stats would change. Normally the stress of using Superpower lowered the attack and defencive capabilities of a pokemon, but thanks to Malum's Contrary ability he would find his strength and endurance sharply increasing.

[attr="class","stone i"]now afflicted by CONFUSION, the battle becomes much trickier for swampert. the water-type has every intention to meet malamar's SUPERPOWER with one of his own. his arms swimg up to counter against the force of the attack, legs buckling but he holds strong with SUPERPOWER strength. unless?

regardless, swampert attempts to swing his arms into the ground for an EARTHQUAKE, causing shards to split and slam into the malmar. unless?

As Malum launched toward the swampert, he winced as he saw it prepare to deflect the Superpower. However, Malum's Swagger had taken hold. The confused swampert swung too early, leaving it wide open for a direct hit. Malum was happy to oblige.

The impact of the Superpower was immense, and Malum was tossed backward. He landed on his feet, sliding against the ground until inertia brought him to a stop. He looked to the swampert, raising his tentacle to his mouth as he let out a haughty cackle. This display angered Oscar, "Hey what did I tell you about getting cocky, stay focused!"

Indeed Malum would be forced to compose himself, as his foe was preparing another attack. He braced for a mighty strike, trembling slightly as the swampert unleashed an Earthquake--to the far right. Malum watched as the tremors passed him by, crawling up the walls with such vibrations that chunks of the areana began to fall and shatter. Nary a pebble touched Malum, and as he returned his gaze to the swampert his cruel smile would widen. 

His arms began to glow with psychic energy, and the maniacal squid would whip his tentacles at the opponent to unleash that energy (Psycho cut. The psychic blades tore through the air toward the swampert, but while they were intended to hit they were mere distractions to cover Malum's true attack. He once again charged at the swampert, encased in immense power (Superpower). He trailed behind the blades, his Superpowered strike intending to come after his opponent dealt with them. After the results of this attack, Malum's attack and defence would once again rise thanks to Contrary.

[attr="class","stone i"]unfortunately, the battle looks to be lost. there's not much they can do to counter against the CONFUSION. it's an annoying affliction, one that can only be cured with time.

both swampert's attacks miss, leaving him open to be countered. both malamar's attacks hit, doing massive amounts of damage. swampert coils in pain, obviously hurt, but he remains standing if only to appear strong.

in retaliation, TORRENT kicks in, empowering the two waves of MUDDY WATER that look to drown the malamar. unless?

Both of Malum's attacks hit true, and as he once again slid back across the floor Oscar's eyes slowly widened. Was this actually happening? Could he, against all odds, clench this win and earn his second badge? His heartbeat quickened, he had to remain cautious. Just because the odds were in his favor didn't mean that they couldn't be turned against him at the last moment.

"Malum, finish it just how we practiced."

Malum nodded, keeping his eyes on his opponent as they tried to retaliate. He braced to take on whatever the foe had up their sleeve, only for the swampert to unleash Muddy Water waves on either side of him. Thanks to the confusion, Malum felt nothing more than a splash. His eyes began to glow pink, and he would let out an operatic coo as he quickly charged up energy. This charging could be felt across the arena, with pebbles from the earlier rubble raising slightly off the ground.When the time was right, Malum unleashed a psychic blast of Stored Power.

Normally Stored Power gave only glancing blows. However, when the user's stats were boosted, it had the capability of unleashing terrifying damage. Thanks to Malum's stat boosts from Superpower, this blast was strong enough to possibly be a finishing blow. Of course, there's no guarantee in pokemon battles. As soon as his attack died down, Malum launched toward the opponent with yet another Superpower. 

Oscar clenched his fists. Was this it? Only time would tell.

but alexander knows it's a lost battle. he watches the inevitable end creep closer and closer with every attack that lands on swampert, every attack the water-type misses. what happens next might be no different.

telegraphed by this point, swampert attempts to conjure up a PROTECT that might not even form in time to defend against the STORED POWER. while diving into the water to avoid the second attack is an option, swamper instead chooses to stand his ground, taking the attack head on before attempting to counter with his own HAMMER ARM.

As Oscar saw the Swampert prepare to Protect himself, he winced. He anticipated that to be its next move, though at least Malum had a follow up prepared. However, as the beam reached its target, the confused swampert relaxed as if it already protected itself from the move. Oscar's eyes widened. "No way..."

The beam hit directly, and Malum stopped mid-charge as he watched the impact. The explosion of psychic energy rocked the arena, and as dust whipped past him Malum's jaw went slack. The swampert was down, somehow he won. As Oscar noticed this, his knees nearly gave out. Adrenaline and glee kept him upright, the warmth of the two feelings forcing him to grin. When he was sure the swampert was down for good, Oscar sprinted onto the arena.

Malum let out a deep sigh of relief, that was a stressful fight. Oscar ran up from behind and nearly knocked Malum over with a hug. At first Malum was annoyed, but as he turned his head and saw how happy his master was he couldn't help but smile. Malum returned his master's affection, patting him on the head with one of his tentacles.

Oscar eventually realized that he didn't look very professional, and slowly pulled away from Malum. He stood beside his triumphant pokemon and tried to compose himself to meet Alexander.

[attr="class","stone i"]the battle is over. the fallen swampert is recalled back into the safety of his pokeball. alexander crosses the distance of the battlefield, approaching the victorious challenger.

"your persistence paid off." the little exchange oscar shares with his malamar is sweet. it reminds him of the joys of being a trainer, which is sometimes lost. "you stuck to your game plan and confused my swampert, effectively disabling him for the rest of the battle. well played, mister clayton."

the rune badge is presented. "this is yours."
